When we are on holidays in Berry, our table of ten is filled with family and friends eating platters of food, which overlooks our beautiful country escape. If we happen to go out there is always one place that we all agree offers wholesome reasonably priced pub meals with great service and atmosphere. The Berry Hotel ticks all the boxes for us.
Built in 1863, the hotel is known as the town’s oldest brick building. You will find people relaxing, having a beer and watching a game of footy in the pub. Functions and or large groups of people dine in the courtyard or enjoy a meal in the café. If you’re into poker then be sure to visit the Hotel on Thursdays for their APL poker night!
For a local pub, the variety of food is quite extensive. Every Tuesday is known for Tex Mex Tuesday, which offers Mexican favourites such as tortillas, tacos and $10 nachos. Last October they featured meals highlighting Oktoberfest. A huge pork knuckle with sauerkraut, mash potato and apple sauce was absolutely mouth watering and cooked to perfection! It definitely gave us that “wow” factor you look for when going out for dinner.
You can always rely on the beer battered fish and chips with house made tartare. Steaks cover the plate and are served with either chips and salad or mash and veg. The ribs as they say were finger lickin good! We usually share a few dishes, as the serving sizes are quite large.
The vegetable salad topped with pinenuts and parmesan is always nice as a side or to enjoy as a light meal. Another favourite is the tandoori chicken pizza dressed with yogurt and fresh rocket.
Next time your driving from Sydney down to the South Coast, make sure The Berry Hotel is on your list of places to eat!
