Mother’s Day “Unbirthday” Cake

My mum is a lot like Mother Teresa. She goes out of her way to make everyone happy. After a long hard week at work she will invite friends and family over for tea or visit our lovely friend Olive who is 102 years old. She just never stops!

Unfortunately I was in Jordan on Mother’s Day so I could not spend the day with her. That’s why I had to get her something special. She is very minimalistic and like me, LOVES all things sweet!

As soon as I scrolled through my Instagram feed, I knew exactly what to get her. I had been following Unbirthday bakery for a while and had been mesmerised by their Katherine Sabbath inspired cakes. They are just stunning!

Unbirthday Bakery “bakes cakes for gals and guys in Sydney”. They are famous for their vibrant, colourful cakes decorated with assorted chocolates, macarons, handmade chocolate gems, fresh flowers, fruit and their magnificent chocolate crowns, which add that extra wow factor. They also offer chocolate tarts, cupcakes, handmade chocolates and chocolate bark which is beautifully packaged to suit any occasion such as birthdays or weddings.

My husband Omar and I chose the hybrid cake for mum, which is their most popular design. We went with their one tier small sized cake that serves up to eight people. I wanted to keep the flavours simple and chose old school vanilla for the cake with mint green buttercream.

I was so pleased when mum sent me photos of the cake when it arrived to her work. It looked absolutely magnificent and the impressive packaging disguised that there was a cake inside.

The team at Unbirthday was very efficient and did everything I asked for. They even wrote on the box “happy mothers day” and put a cute artistic picture that read “a very special magic lives inside you”. It was everything I had hoped to give mum.

The cake was delivered on Friday and the family enjoyed it on Sunday for Mothers day. The cake lasted very well and the flowers were still fresh. Everyone was just blown away!

I was lucky enough to enjoy a slice. My mum kept me a piece and put it in the freezer for when I returned home. The cake was moist, delicious and generously covered in buttercream.

Mum was utterly surprised and it made her day. We are looking forward to trying their Pavlova and other sweet treats!
